Ozone Sanitation Equipment Selection

We have provided this document to aid individuals in the selection of ozone sanitation equipment. The following information on ozone system selection and McClain Ozone systems is provided for your information and review. We are looking forward to working with you on your sanitation challenges.

If you are looking at ozone sanitation systems there are several things to consider:
1) Manufacturer's Presence in the Industry
McClain Ozone Inc. pioneered the use of ozone in the wine industry and is the industry leader in the production of mobile and dedicated ozone sanitation systems (Client List available on request). We exceed all industry and safety standards and are EPA Registered, NSF Registered, and OSHA Compliant.

2) Measurable Dissolved Ozone Concentration in the Water
The concentration of ozone in the process water is critical to successful sanitation. The classic sanitation formula is illustrated below.
Concentration (ppm) x Time (minutes) = CT Value
As can be seen in the CT formula, the higher the concentration of ozone in the water the lower the time required to do the job. Reducing job time has the cost saving and environmental benefits of reducing labor and saving process water. McClain patented concentrator, degassing and destruct system provides our sanitation systems with the industries highest concentration of ozone in the water. CT Values are provided to clients for all winery applications.

3) Equipment Safety and Employee Training and Certification
McClain sanitation systems are EPA Registered, NSF Registered and OSHA Compliant. We believe that the safe and effective use of ozone is dependent on employee knowledge and competence. Therefore, all sales include on-site or media training and Certification of your employees on standard operating procedures and the safe use of ozone in the workplace.

4) Equipment Reliability and Warranties
McClain sanitation systems provide proven reliability. Our systems are used by more wineries than any other manufacturer (Client List available upon request) and we are happy to furnish client references. In addition, McClain technology and reliability is backed by the best warranty in the industry.

5) System Size and Mobility, Application Flexibility, Ease of Operation, and Water Flow Capacity.
McClain sanitation systems have been designed with the input of winery workers worldwide. These designs emphasize small size, mobility, application flexibility, and ease of operation. Water flow capacity is an important consideration in ozone applications. Barrel rinse systems require 6- 8 gpm per barrel to be effective while tank cleaning systems often require higher flow capacities McClain systems allow for a range of flows to allow the winemaker application options using the same system.

6) Available Options and Upgrade Ability (Grows with your Winery)
McClain offers numerous options some of which are only available on our systems. In addition, all systems are upgradeable both for ozone and options. Options offered include the following:
Ozone Output Upgrade – All McClain Sanitation Systems allow for increased ozone output upgrades.
This allows the system to grow with the winery applications over time.
Barrel Gas Option – Studies indicate that ozone gas is beneficial in the barrel to improve sanitation effectiveness. Gas strip and destruct systems remove excess gas to prevent off gassing in the workplace when sanitizing tanks, floors, walls, press equipment, etc. The McClain Barrel Gas Option allows the winemaker to take the gas strip and destruct system off line when doing barrels thus allowing the extra ozone gas to go into the barrel. Ozone and Oxygen Gas Option – This option allows the winemaker pull direct ozone or medical grade oxygen gas (with out water) from the sanitation system. Ozone gas is effective in barrel storage (vs. SO2) and cellar mold control. Oxygen gas is being used to perform micro-oxidation in tanks and/or barrels.
Cart Mounted Ozone Safety Monitoring and Control System – This safety option automatically monitors the ozone system for leaks. If a leak is detected the system is shut down and the operator is visually notified.

7) Technical Support and Service
McClain offers factory and Distributor technical support, parts and service worldwide. Our systems are modular for ease of service and require no specialized tools. Service training for maintenance personnel is available for a fee. Please contact us at 707-254-0576 concerning a demo at your facility. We would also be happy to furnish contacts and set up a visit to wineries using our mobile and dedicated equipment. If you have any questions or need more information give us a call. We are looking forward to working with you.
