Ozone Applications in Wastewater and Municipal Water Treatment

Ozone is a natural fit for wastewater treatment in many industries. Ozone can be used in the final polishing stage for BOD reduction and/or as a flocculent of fats, oils, grease (FOGs) as well as total suspended solids (TSS).
For treating wastewater from food processing facilities, ozone is best used in combination with other filtration technologies to bring the most efficient and cost effective treatment solutions.

Treatment vs. Source Reduction
It's important to make the distinction between source reduction and treatment.

  • Source reduction includes technologies and operations that reduce the amount of wastewater generated in the first place.
  • Treatment includes technologies and operations that treat wastewater to reduce levels of contamination, either to facilitate in-plant recycle or to reduce costs of treatment.
